Mine (Ironstone) / Quarry (Limestone).
Site of a limestone quarry on the Hurlet Limestone where the Winthank Lime Works was established, the remains of which have been overgrown by woodland. A disused shaft is shown at the given coordinates on the OS map of 1894, which is probably part of an ironstone pit which worked the Denhead Blackband Ironstone both underground & opencast (see mine plan S3575 in refs). A later OS map shows an additional old shaft within the N part of the limestone quarry at [NO 4713 1321].
