Mine (Fireclay & Coal), 1930s.
Site of blocked adit within woodland, just N of the entrance to Appin No.1 Mine. The initial adit, which was through a blae seam, led N into small-scale longwall workings in the Mynheer Clay (& some Glassee Clay) which supplied the adjacent Appin Fire Clay Works. A long linear roadway through the Dunfermline Splint Coal connected these workings with those of Lochside No.1 Mine to the W [site #9191]. See mine plan (12177) in refs for detailed layout.
Alternative Names: Lochside No.3 Mine
Notes: Mine plan indicates that this mine was initially known as 'No.2 Mine Appin', & later 'No.3 Mine Lochside'. The 'Lochside Fireclay and Coal Works' was essentially an extension of the Appin Works.
