Mine (Coal), 1966-74.
Site of two adjacent adit mouths which were treated/sealed in 1974, now buried below field margins. These entered a small-scale complex of longwall workings in the Blairhall Main Coal seam via inclined adits (1 in 1.5 gradient), mostly under the fields N of the adits at a depth of ca. 100ft. The short-lived mine, which was a private venture led by James Payne following cessation of operations at North Steelend Mine, was abandoned owing to faulting-related issues.
Alternative Names: Killernie No.1 Mine, Bovril Field Mine
Notes: Given coordinates are for the No.1 Mine portal. The No.2 portal was located ca. 40m to the SE. Both accessed the same mine system.
