Mine (Ironstone?), mid-19th cent.
Site of backfilled mouth to adit that extended SE to very small-scale workings below field at [NT 0509 9330], operated by the Forth Iron Company & surveyed in 1865.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Possibly an ironstone mine as Geological Survey map shows that workings underlie the crop of the W-dipping Big Coal. This map also shows the Steelend Upper Blackband Ironstone horizon being poorly developed at this locality, cf. ironstone mine abandoned early due to poor seam development.
Shown as an un-named mine on plan S4347, located ca. 270m NW of the now-demolished cottage of North Steelend & is a separate mine to North Steelend Mine [site #11202].
