"The whole of the coast is bold, picturesque, and rocky, particularly to the westward of the manse, about a mile from which, upon the estate of Auchmedden is Pitjossie, a stupendous natural arch, through which the tide flows at high water, and which, when viewed from the top of the adjoining cliff, has a striking and awful appearance. This colossal arch is said by those who have seen both, to equal, if not surpass, the celebrated Bullers of Buchan." (1)
An intertidal arch, aligned NE/SW. It is the third and much the largest of a close group of three, starting with the quite petite Tardight Eye on the E side, a middle sized and unnamed one then this one. The other two are in line with each other running about NW/SE.
Alternative Names: Bow of Pitjossie
Notes: The NGR is the SW entrance. The NE entrance is at NJ 88001 65076. Length from these NGRs.
Alt is a visual estimate.
Access: SW entrance visible from cliffs along the coastal path; or along the foreshore from the E at a springs low tide; or by sea at high tide.
