1/4 Mile South of Galloway Bridge. A natural cave close by the high Water Mark, in the face of a Precipice. planted with Oak Trees. The cave runs for about 1 chain [66 feet] in an easterly direction and is on the eastern shore of Loch Ryan. - Both of these caves [Dove Cave and White Cave] are much resorted to by Pigeons. [Scotland's Places]
Alternate Names: Dove Cave
Notes: Galloway Bridge crosses the Galloway Burn or Marchburn on the boundary or March between Galloway and South Ayrshire.
There are three caves marked on the current OS maps south of the Marchburn, The closest to the burn is the White Cave. The middle Cave is the Black Cave . I might be assumed the furthest Cave is the Dove Cave but unfortunately this is not the base and older OS maps confirm that Dove Cave was another name for the Black Cave.
Hydrographic Feeds: Irish Sea, Loch Ryan
Hydrographic Resurgences: Irish Sea, Loch Ryan
