Slightly sloping (near vertical) rift rising from sea level to near the top of a 25 m high cliff. Either side of the cleft the raiased beach narrows to a 2-3 m wide ledge giving easy access to either side of the rift but a dangerous scramble over a 10 m drop to get across. At low level the cleft narrows until it diappears out of sight below overhanging boulders. Halfway up, the boulders form a rock bridge with a furher 5-6 m deep slot beyond dropping back towards sea level. Above another boulder choke a level floor runs 6-8 m into the cliff
Alternative Names: Cave of the Sharp Cleft
Notes: There are separate walking paths (rough narrow trails) which lead along the raised beach line from the populated area to the east and west to either side of the slot. It is also possible for the fearless to climb or jump across the slot. As the sides are steep and slippery, above a 10 m drop, this is not advised. Easiest access to the cave is from the east but a rope at least is required to safely access the lower parts of the cave as even at low tide there is no route along the base of the cliff.
