Sandstone Mine. Entrances to the mine from the surface quarry in Kemback Woods.

Blebocraigs is a small village near St Andrews in Fife, ... There were once several sandstone quarries in the village and the "caves", as they are known locally, are an extension of one of these. It would probably be stretching a point to call it a mine. There were many mills on the nearby River Eden and Blebo sandstone was particularly good for millstones, as well as being used for building. [derelictplaces]

"Not really much of a mine as never really away from the daylight. Roof is decidedly dodgy looking in places especially towards the west end of the quarry workings." [N. Menzies]

This place has seen several rockfalls, I cannot stress enough how dodgy the roof in here is : Cracks abound in the roof, several large slabs appear to be just hanging. Walls of deads stacked along the sides and timber lattices packed with rocks form columns not quite supporting the roof..

Alternative Names: Blebo Caves

Notes: Blebocraigs quarry is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross 1856, sheet 11) and annotated 'Old Quarry'. It is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975) and annotated 'disused'.
