A small, supratidal cave at the west end of the Bay of Cullen on the east side of Cleaved Head. The cave faces SW and has a tuning fork plan. The divide is at 3.4 m inside and goes on for a further 2.3 m on the E side and 1.2 m on the W side. The W side is quite narrow. Width at entrance is 1.7 m.
"When about 50 to 100 yards out at sea, a slight effort of imagination will help one to see two human figures in this latter cave; and, when boating, the attention of strangers is always directed to the two castaways in hiding." [Banffshire Field Club]
The above would indeed require imagination as the cave entrance is not visible from 50 yds from the edge of the beach at the middle. But 130 years after Wm Forbes's 'Walk', the entrance may now be further back (north) than it was then.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Access: Park at Loch Craig (as for Tarlair open air swimming pool. Go past the pool and up the path which leads to the 14th Tee of Royal Tarlair Golf club. Cross the fairway and go NE until you see the Bay of Cullen. This cave is not visible until nearly down to the sand beach.
