There is a small area of metamorphosed sedoimentary rocks on the coast north-west of Bunessan. The caves described [Uamhannan Tuill] were found during a short kayaking trip, putting in from Bunessan Harbour. It is likely further exploration of these areas would find additional sea caves. The main beach [Port Ban] was at 56.33172 -6.272281 [NM35995 23715] but there are several other good landing beaches along the coast. From this beach we found five caves in close proximity, and there are likeky others along the same shoe. The largest and most-southerly we called Two Sheep Cave
Two Sheep Cave is roughly 20m long with a large entrance around 15m high. Pebbled beach floor near the entrance gives way to stone and cave earth above the tideline, and the interior of the cave appears to be above sea level. There is a round hole in the ceiling near the entrance. Cave curls around left to create a low-ceilinged alcove sheltered from daylight. It contains two sheep skeletons. {Lu Freem 13/9/24]
