Cave marked on OS map at the inland end of Dounal, S of Sandy Geo and Horse Geo, SE of Halfway House (now Summerbank House). N of Nybster Broch (Mervyn Tower).
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Dounal, or Doonal. Old Norse. *Dyn-áll, noisy channel. [Placenames of Canisbay]
Mervyn's Tower, a folly constructed at Nybster Broch, seems to have been built with stones removed from the broch. The broch probably excavated by John Nicolson and Sir Francis Tress Barry. The folly is decorated with rather bizarre carvings of gargoyles.
Halfway House was the home of John Nicolson (1843 - 1934), artist, sculptor, archaeologist, and historian.
