Railway tunnel (19th Century), active.
Built c.1878, the tunnel runs from Dundee Railway Station to the south of East Marketgait at Camperdown Street, allowing for a direct link between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Because of its proximity to the Earl Grey and King William IV docks, water pumping was needed until the docks were filled in.
Alternative Names: Dock Street Tunnel
Notes: Given coordinates are for the tunnel's Eastern entrance beside Victoria Dock. The other now-infilled docks were redevelopment to create the city's 'Waterfront' area and Tay Road Bridge junctions. Length (m) converted from 627yd figure given by Railscot.
