Generic reference to 'a cave that's amongst the trees in Glen Tarken'. [Dewar]

Also referred to as 'a small cave set in the hillside between St. Fillans and Glentarken' or above the modern St Fillans.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Coordinates given are arbitrary (on minor summit at Dun Caoch). There is no cave at this location.

Glen Tarken, literally the valley of the Glentarken Burn, north of Loch Earn. Not currently wooded but Glen Tarken Woods spread east and west along Loch Earn. Ardvorlich and Ardvorlioch House are south of Loch Earn. No known caves in this area (but this might be because no one has looked and no large scale maps are available). If the following is accepted at face value: 'James Stewart of Ardvorlich was at the time hiding in a cave in the rock face just above the present St Fillans', then the rock face is either Creag Mhor or Creag Garbh. [St Fillans]
