Generic reference to 'a cave that lies in the farm called Brenachoile '. [Dewar]
The rebels' kinsfolk were supportive of each other, and willing to conceal any insurgent who needed to be kept hidden. [113] Since Donald Cameron couldn't stay in Lochaber, he went to Glen Buckie in Balquhidder. Stewart of Glenbuckie was too afraid to keep Donald Cameron in his house, so he was obliged to go to a cave that lies in the farm called Brenachoile (Breunchoille, 'Stinking/Rotten Wood') beside Loch Katrine. The land belonged to Stewart of Glen Buckie, and the farmer was a Stewart who was closely related to him. He too was friendly to those who'd been banished for rising with Charles, so while Donald was hiding in the cave, he and his people were the ones who brought him food.
When Donald Cameron had been in the cave for a long time, he fell ill. The Stewarts in Brenachoile felt sorry for him as a gentleman living in a cave, neglected and sick. They brought him home to their own house so that they could provide him with better treatment than they were able to give him in a cold cave where there was no fire, and they made him as comfortable as they could. [Dewar]
