"A small quantity of ore is said to have been raised about 1770 from a mine near to the east end of the village of Glammis. The vein crosses the burn, and the gangue mineral is barytes." [Wilson, 1921]
Alternative Names: Glammis Mine
Notes: Bowes family (family of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Mother & Earls of Strathmore) involved with Lead Mining owned Glamis Castle. c. 1770 lead mining near village of Glammiss but ore not worth expense.
Glamis in Angus not Perthshire as noted previously.
Coordinates given (6 fig NGR) are generic for E end of Glamis village.
