Mine (shale), early 20th Century.
"The adits of this short-lived mine exploited the northwestern corner of the Forkneuk shale field and linked to Forkneuk No. 1 Pit and Forkneuk No. 9 & 10 Pits. They were known as the Coronation pits as they were started in 1902, the year of the Coronation of Edward VII" [Scottish Shale]
Site now in field with vegetation / trees within shakeholes caused by subsidence.
Alternative Names: Coronation Pits
Notes: Two adits marked on MRA map. Given 8 fig. coordinates derived from OS georef' tool (location of adit visible on 1945-65 map).
Labelled as 'shale mine (disused)' on 1913 OS map.
