Mine (baryte), 20th Century.
Extensive elongate mine complex with four levels following a WNW-ESE-trending baryte vein. The uppermost level is the most extensive, c.500m from an area near a surface cairn (W end) to beyond the Gass Water to the E. From the most densely mined area where the four levels are present near the Main Shaft, a drainage level extends SE for c.120m to a rising at approx. NS 6739 2104. A test adit was driven just S of the Main Shaft.
As shown on the abandonment plans (see refs), the vertical range is approx. 400ft. Spoil mound and quarrying scars visible at surface.
Alternative Names: Gasswater B Mine
Notes: Operated by Anglo Austral Mines Ltd. Closed in 1964. Most of the complex appears to have been mined from 1960 to 1963.
Given 8 fig. NGR is for the Main Shaft, derived from features on Pastmap.
Separate to the Gasswater 'A' Mine to west (See Database Site #791 & references within)
