Mine (fireclay), 20th Century.
Pillar and stall complex with mine mouth at given coordinates (now buried below field), extracting the Upper & Lower Killiebone clay seams (1.6m & 1.8m thick, respectively). Served the adjacent Lilliehill Fire Clay Works. Operated by Lochside Coal & Fireclay Co., closed in 1963. See abandonment plan (in refs) for mine layout.
Alternative Names: Lilliehill Fireclay Mine
Notes: Not to be confused with the 'Lilliehill No. 1 Mine' that was located further S and part of the Townhill Colliery, pits of which also encountered fireclay.
A separate clay works was present at the SE side of Townhill (Appin Fire Clay Works) where clay was mined in opencast fashion at NT 1067 8926.
Given 8 fig. coordinates are for the site of the mine mouth.
