Mine (coal & ironstone), 19th-20th Centuries.
Primarily a coal mine, but pithead sat above and was linked to a significant ironstone complex between the main workings of the Berryhill No.3 & Common No.15 pits. See abandonment plans in refs.

Notes: Marked as "Ballochmyle Pits (Coal, No.5 & No.6)" on 1896 OS map, whilst geological map notes that the easternmost pit (No.6) encountered the Lugar Blackband Ironstone at 172 fms [315m].
