Mine (Ironstone), early 20th Century

Relatively extensive complex mine system (separate to the much larger Corbie Craigs No1-7 Complex) extracting a 20 inch-thick blackband ironstone seam, layout of which is shown on abandonment plan. Western extension section due N of a sheepfold, but main workings to E of pit, comprising long E-W trending parallel passages. S section extended to point approx. midway between pit and waterfall. Pit served by (now dismantled) mineral railway to Lethanhill. The No.8 shaft has been treated and is now buried below rough grassland.

Owned by Dalmellington Iron Co., abandoned 1919.
