Mines (Limestone with Coal), 19th Century.
Remains of limestone workings that also extracted coal for fueling limekilns (now located in woodland at NS 6267 7906). Four level entrances are depicted on the 2nd Ed. 25" OS map, the easternmost three of which are shown as being connected to the limekilns by tramways. Older coal pits are also labelled further E (centred on ~NS 6302 7906), E of which were extensive limestone quarry workings (now-infilled at ~NS 6333 7907). The site of the lime works and two blocked/buried level mouths are located along the E & N sides of the B822 road.
