"Barjarg: There are, here, abandoned quarries and mines of considerable extent in a Lower Carboniferous seam of which 10 ft. are now seen, and which dips N.E. at 25° under a cover of 30 to 50 ft. of sandstone. Half a mile to the north-west was Porterstown quarry and mine. The extent of the mines is not accurately known at either locality" [Robertson, 1949]

Notes: Quarry works active on 1st Ed. OS maps, but labelled as disused on 2nd Ed. No obvious mine features are marked on these old maps.
