Tunnels, Hydro electric scheme.
On the N shore of Lednock Reservoir (140m NW of Lednock Dam's NE end), a concreted double-outfall point for two significant water diversion tunnels has been barriered off using metal grating. The left-hand (NW) portal is the S mouth of the Almond Tunnel (5200m long), whilst the right-hand (SE) portal is that of the Invergeldie Tunnel (1900m-long). Both tunnels become un-lined further in.
In low water conditions the circular portals are filled mostly with air, and the combined outflow flows down a water-chute into the reservoir.
Alternate Names: Almond Tunnel, Invergeldie Tunnel
Notes: Part of the Breadalbane Hydro-Electric Scheme, ultimately supplying St Fillans Power Station at Loch Earn (& later Dalchonzie Power Station).
Hydrographic Feeds: Invergeldie Burn, River Almond
Hydrographic Resurgences: Loch Lednock Reservoir
