Tunnel, Hydro electric scheme (1958-).
Tailrace outfall point for the concrete-lined Dalchonzie Tunnel that has an equiv. diameter of 11'6" and supplies Dalchonzie Power Station as part of the Breadalbane Hydro Scheme.
According to some sources, it begins as a side-passage off a tunnel at St Fillans Power Station [NN 690 246]. However, an old SSE general layout map shows it beginning at a 'River Earn Intake' that is probably associated with a weir structure at St Fillans [NN 6980 2404]. From there is passes an intake on the Allt Ghòinean at [NN 7072 2281], and through the hill of Bioran Dalchonzie. A surge shaft, into which the low-pressure section of the tunnel will end, is located just W of the tailrace outfall at [NN 73985 21951].
Alternate Names: St Fillans - Dalchonzie Tunnel
Notes: Given length approx.
Hydrographic Feeds: River Earn, Allt Ghòinean
