Tunnel, Hydro-electric scheme (1955-).
Associated with Finlarig Power Station, a significant tunnel through Meall Liath is connected to water pipelines at either end. The northern pipe connects the N portal with Lawers Dam at Lochan na Lairige [NN 5996 3914], whilst the S portal is marked by a pump house from where the waters are carried down an inclined second pipeline to the powerhouse. The station's tailrace outfall point is on the N shore of Loch Tay at [NN 5855 3450].
Alternate Names: None recorded.
Notes: Northern portal / end of N pipeline at [NN 5991 3879]. See 'Finlarig Tunnel [Inlet]' (Site 8980).
Additional intake point along the Allt Tir Artair at [NN 58628 36718].
Given length & VR are approx. and a minimum distance (line between N & S portals). The tunnel is probably longer, as the SSE map shows the path of the tunnel to be kinked (trending SW then SSE downflow).
Hydrographic Feeds: Lochan an Lairige
Hydrographic Resurgences: Finlarig Power Station / Loch Tay
