Tunnel, Hydro-electric scheme.
Water sinking at a sluice tower on the SE shore of the Loch Glascarnoch reservoir at [NH 3364 7085] flows through a bedrock tunnel to an outfall point above Mossford Power Station, via a surge shaft at [32515 63919]. The outfall point (at given coordinates) is now covered by a pump or valve house from which an inclined surface pipeline diverts water to Mossford Power Station below.
Alternate Names: Glascarnoch Tunnel, Glasscarnock Tunnel
Notes: Part of the Conon Hydro Scheme.
Outfall portal driven through bedrock (prior to installation of pipeline) visible on 1954 archive photo, as is a lower tunnel (to power station) with mouth on NW margin of A832 road.
Given length (& VR) approx, based on straight lines from intake to surge shaft to outfall.
Hydrographic Feeds: Loch Glascarnoch
