Mine (Ironstone, Coal, Fireclay?).

Colliery (opened c.1873, closed before 1945), possibly later associated with what would become the adjacent (& now demolished) Blackhill Brick Works, Wester Balmuildy. The shafts are now buried under an area of grassy wasteland. The colliery was owned by the Summerlee Iron Co., & the Nos 8 & 9 pits (at given coordinates) were served by the Kelvin Valley Railway.

Notes: Given coordinates are for pits 8/9, located on SW edge of brickworks site. Labelled as "Blackhill Pits Nos 8 & 9" on 1898 OS 25" map.

Site used for landfill following closure of brickworks & colliery.
