"At the Kilgrammie Engine Pit, a fireclay forming the roof of the Craigie Coal was mined for brick making. The bed was about 2 ft in thickness and was worked for about 10 years, until the closing of the pit in 1905-06." [GSoS, 1932]

Notes: Shaft site now occupied by woodland. A number of old air shafts (to coal workings of the Kilgrammie Colliery) are labelled in the surrounding area on OS maps.

Geol. Survey map states that shaft extends to Rotten Coal seam at 54 1/2 fms (100m).

A brick works appears to have been formerly present in the Kilgrammie area, the exact location of which is uncertain (probably on site of colliery, cf. Dalquharry Tile Works).
