Air shaft (& original pit?) for Cambusbarron Mine, 19th Century.
The site of this shaft is situated along the northern extremity of the limestone workings beneath Gillies Hill, beside the S end of the more recent access tunnel. This may have originally been the main access pit to the oldest area of workings (surveyed in 1865), now-worked-out. This area of the mine is linked to younger (1880s to 1900s) southern passages which were accessed from the Gillies Hill Adit to the W (& later Cambusbarron Adit).
Shaft site now occupied by woodland, condition unknown (unmarked on MRA website).
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: See: Cambusbarron Mine [Site 462]
Mine abandonment plan states: Depth of pit 34' 2" deep.
Given coordinates derived from BGS GeoIndex.
