Cave/Rockshelter on the edge of the pebble beach about 5 m wide and 3 m deep with the roof sloping back to the ground at the back.
Alternative Names: Hermit's Cave, Sheep Cave
Notes: Johnny Logie was a hermit who lived in this cave for more than 20 years. Originally a miner who from Ayrshire, he was injured in a pit accident which left him half blind and deaf, after which he retreated to this lonely spot beside the shore of Luce Bay. Here he cultivated his own crops and was virtually self sufficient. He left his cave in 1962, dying from pneumonia soon afterwards. [David Baird]
Johnny Logie had been a miner and suffered partial blindness and deafness as the result of an accident. He was a convinced Stalinist and had Stalin's portrait on the wall of the cave, where he retreated to live. He kept a garden of kelp. He left in 1962. [Scran]
Until 2020, the GSG database had this cave in the wrong location only with the identification of the cave as Sheep Cave by solwaycoastwise was it correctly located.
