Yoker Burn (Duntreath Avenue Culvert Outfall)

Culvert outfall on the line of the Yoker Burn at Duntreath Avenue, west of the Great Western Retail Park. The stream was culverted (probably in the late 1960s) when Duntreath Avenue was constructed as a connecting route between Yoker, Great Western Road and Drumchapel.

Notes: A tramway had existed connecting the Glasgow, Drumchapel, Garscadden Brick and Tileworks (near the Glasgow Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway) and mines near Garscadden Woods to a loading pier on the the Forth and Clyde Canal. This was disused by 1950. When the Goodyear Factory [Linnvale Works?] were constructed c. 1956, the tramway was removed and Dunreath Road was built with slipways and a bridge across Great Western Road where the the road crossed the line of the tramway near Westfield Nurseries. The factory closed in 1979. The factory site was (briefly in the late 1980s) the site of a building supply warehouse [B&Q] before in the mid 1990s being redeveloped as the Great Western Retail Park.

An under bridge is shown near the later brick and tile work site (possibly a farm access road). Previously disused mineral railway to Garscadden Woods shown as active but no longer connected to the main railway line. Instead the line stops at the brick Works and a separate brach heads to the loading wharf at the Forth & Clyde Canal.
