Mine (Coal), early-20th century.

Site of buried adit that accessed a SE-dipping dook passage through a significant area of pillar-&-stall workings in the Upper & (dominantly) Lower Blind Coal seams. A second neighbouring adit, also on the W side of the worked area, was located a short distance to the NE of the given coordinates. Mine plan survey dates suggest that the area around the mine adit mouths were worked during the 1920s, whilst workings at the NE end of the complex around pit shafts (extending NE to [NO 3226 0584]) were worked during the 1910s. The straight-line distance between the complex's SW to NE extremities is ca. 0.9 km. Mine was worked by Cults Lime & was abandoned by this company in 1931. See mine plan in refs for detailed layout.

Mine plan lists this mine as 'Rameldry Colliery', although this is probably a later phase. The original Rameldry Colliery, which was known to be in operation in 1850, was situated 1.5 km to the NE at [NO 3286 0635], as shown on OS map of 1893.

Alternative Names: Rameldry Colliery

Notes: Given coordinates are for the SW adit mouth. Given length is distance between extremities, although combined passage length will be significantly longer due to the room-&-pillar style.

Pits at N end of complex located at [NO 32129 05680] & [NO 32214 05684].
