Abandoned shaft marked Bearin Pit on Geological Survey map, now buried below residential garden.

Old mine plan from 1836 shows this as the 'Bearing Pit' mine shaft over [Main Coal] "workings by old day level". The Bearin Pit was sunk between the crops of the Alloa Cherry & Splint coal seams on a synclinal structure, probably reaching the Coalsnaughton Main Coal below that appears to have been worked to (or close to) crop.

Alternative Names: Bearing Pit

Notes: MRA map places shaft beside road, although mine plan shows it further E in fitting with Geological Survey map.
