Extensive longwall workings in multiple coal seams (see mine plans in refs). Given coordinates are for the site of the No.1 shaft that is now situated amongst woodland & was treated in 1970. Site of the adjacent No.2 shaft, also treated, is located ca. 25m further WNW.

Dysart Main Coal workings were also accessed by a surface mine on the crop of the seam to the W [site #10969], & another surface mine was developed in 1946 to produce from the Bowhouse Coal [site #10970].

The colliery was operated by the Fife Coal Company prior to nationalisation & take-over by the NCB in 1947.
