Boulder Caves.
Twistin Hill has some curious features on it as it approaches the summit, there are a number of small caves close to the path and a deep cleft cuts into the ridge.
As you follow the long ridge of twisting hill notice the many small caves - watch your step as they are close to the path - and the deep cleft which almost cuts the ridge in two.
'Near the summit I nearly stumbled into this large vertically downwards cave - water appeared to be dripping some distance inside'.
'watch out for the deep cave like holes on An Caisteal '.
Just before the summit the path drops sharply down into a small gully full of large pieces of rock with small "caves" underneath them. Combined with the mist, it made for a strange and almost mystical view, like something from a film about King Arthur!
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Twistin Hill is a long ridge to the north of the summit of An Caisteal. The Twistin Hill ridge begins once reaching the top of Sron Gharbh, which stands at 709m. The long narrow northern ridge steepens gradually until reaching the summit of An Caisteal at 995m. The path along the ridge is fairly well defined although attaining the start of the ridge requires negotiating your way through thick grass and peat bogs. [summitpost]
