Cave. NM84SE 22 8741 4214. NM 874 421. A large, dry cave on the east side of Eilean Dubh, about 30 feet above sea level, with the entrance facing NE. An excavation, some 5 feet deep, apparently not recent, has been made in the floor showing shell-fish occupation refuse to that depth. The entrance is almost completely overgrown but is identifiable by a large bed of nettles. P C Denholm 1970. The cave measures about 15 metres in length by 2 metres in width and is about 2.3 metres in height. Surveyed at 1:10 000. Visited by OS (RD) 22 November 1971. The cave shown in antiquity type on published 1:10 000 of 1976 at NM 8733 4201 is in a different location from that described above, and would appear to be a mis-plot. (Undated) information in NMRS.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: The considerable shell-midden on the floor of this cave at NM 8741 4214 leaves no doubt that it was occupied at a very early date.
