One of a small group of limestone & earth caves of unknown origin (may represent long abandoned badger sett but no evidence of occupation).
Track to Balquhidder from Ledcharrie Farm up E bank of Ledcharrie Burn, under viaduct & turn left up 1st eastern tributary, past boulder field to dry stream on left. Caves on top of small, V, shaped headland between two stream channels. 6 m waterfall drops over limestone outcrop 70 m upstream. Explored by Jim Salvona, 1984. Small heather fringed hole emerges into 1.5 m diameter passage leading down to earthen slope through 8 m of earth walled passage with roots dangling from earth roof. Ends in roughly circular chamber with no clue where earth has gone. Loose earth floor so possible fissures below allow water to gradually wash soil away. [Southern Highlands]
The banking completely overhangs the entrance and more rocks have been used to block a small slot at the left side of the entrance. [Jim Salvona, 1986]
Alternative Names: Earth Cave
Notes: Explored by Jim Salvona & Malcolm Stewart, 1984.
