Generic. A reference to caves in the islands off the western coast of Scotland.
Alternative Names: Hebrides (Caves of the)
Notes: Even as a generic term, the hebrides is a little too vague as the Inner and Outer Hebrides cover a very large area. Individual caves are listed in more specific groupings. The coordinates given place a marker on Hirta, part of the St. Kilda archipelago (the furthest west of the Western Isles). There are sea caves on Hirta but there is no known cave at this precise location.
Hebrides - a group of islands (Inner Hebrides and Outer Hebrides) off the W coast of and belonging to Scotland. About 2900 sq. mi. (7500 sq. km). Also called the Western Islands or Western Isles.
