Rock shelter.
At a point in the cliff between the Yellow Man (NT 574 855) and Leckmoram Ness (NT 577 857) where the rock overhangs and is indented, a slightly curved wall can be traced forming a shelter. (RCAHMS 1924, visited 1913)
At the extreme east end of what used to be the Rhodes Golf Links there is a large rock projecting from the bank formed by the raised sea-beach. The exposed north and north-east sides of this rock shelve inwards presenting a cave-like appearance. Heavy rain c. 1950 washed down human remaind from the field above(Richardson, PSAS 41).
A rock shelter was seen in 1913 and presumably also by the RCAHMS in 1925. A slight rock shelter was noted but no wall or other human traces was observed. Site recorded by GUARD during the Coastal Assessment Survey for Historic Scotland, 'The Firth of Forth from Dunbar to the Coast of Fife' 18th February 1996. (H.F. James)
A slight rock overhang was seen within this area but no trace of a previously reported curving wall around the mouth was in evidence. It is possible that this feature has been eroded away. (Moore & Wilson)
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Heavy rain c. 1905 washed down human remaind from the field above. Excavation at the base of the rock revealed the footings of a dry stone dyke inferring that the spot had been used as aplace of habitation.(Richardson, PSAS 41).
