Geol. survey map notes 44 fathoms to Lugar Blackband Ironstone.
The Lugar ironworks were originally established around 1845 and were purchased by the Eglinton Ironworks Ltd. in 1856. The site was later utilized by the National Coal Board as a regional headquarters and workshops.
