Trackside Cleft lies to the east of Loch Mna, close to the footpath which runs south from Dun Caan (crossing the shallow southern end of Trackside Cleft). Possibly NG 58232 38784 to NG 58223 38743 based on comparison of aerial photographs with map of location of Loch Mna fissures in Salvona, 2009, p. 19.
From the north end a steep descent of over 30 m, then a 20 m scramble up loose boulder scree to a 3-way choice: left - an awkward climb to a junction with an adjacent cleft [Long Kin North], right - a high level continuation of Trackside (southern section), in front - a 3 m high by 4 m wide opening gives access to Trackside Fissure Cave. This (cleared of loose rubble and boulders) comprised of a series of climbable pitches varying in height from 1-2 m (a fixed rope is useful). At the bottom of the entrance slope there is an opening amongst boulders which permitted a view of a lower chamber or passage. A large hanging slab prevents access and attempts to remove this could bring about the collapse of the whole section. [Salvona, 2009]
Alternative Names: Trackside Cleft, Trackside Cleft Cave, Trackside Fissure Cave
Notes: See also Long Kin North (at or near the same coordinates).
Trackside Cleft is one of a small group of fissures forming a rough 'K' when seen from above. Trackside Cleft forms the backbone of the 'K' with Long Kin North forming the upper arm. Trackside Pot or Fissure Cave is at the centre/junction of the 'K'. The lower arm of the 'K' is formed by a shallower un-named cleft. Devil's Breath is just to the southeast roughly parallel to the lower arm of the 'K'.
