An unusual just subtidal rift seacave which has two tunnels, one above the other, at the end of a narrow inlet which starts about 12m from the entrance to the upper tunnel, and about half that to the entrance of the lower one. There is a slot in the floor of the upper tunnel through which the surging in the lower one can be seen near low tide, if there is a bit of swell.

The upper part of the cave - which is rather well eroded out, particularly on the W side - is upper intertidal and on much the same level as the other 3 seacaves to its E along the side of the Kaim. Only this one has a slot along the rift line with water in it over the full tide range. This lower tunnel has not been examined at low tide from the water level.

Width at entrance to the top part is 3.2 m widening to 4.4 at about 2m in. The vertical range is made up of 5.4 m above the floor of the top part and 4.2 m down from there to the bottom of the lower part.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Access: by land at low tide from E or W. Note that the owner of Rock Hall is not at all keen on access through his property so that access from the St Cyrus beach is probably better. This involves quite a bit of scrambling over the rocky foreshore and it is easy to be cut off by a rising tide - particularly round the promontory to the W of the Kaim.
