Situated on the E side of Black Loch, this coal mine, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map as pithead buildings, labelled 'Barnsmuir Colliery Pit No. 7', at the end of a siding of the mineral railway which serves the rest of Barnsmuir Colliery (Stirlingshire 1899, sheet xxxv), is visible as a levelled bing, whilst the 'Air Shaft' that is also depicted on the 2nd edition OS map about 200m to the NE, comprises a partly levelled bing. [Canmore]

Several pits associated with the Barnsmuir Colliery and connecting mineral railways were located south of the Lochside Road (B825). The pits of the Linmerigg Colliery were north of the road.

Situated a short distance into the trees to the S of the public road, this coal mine, which is depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Stirlingshire 1899, xxxv) as a bing and pithead buildings to the W of a mineral railway, is partly visible in a clearing of the conifer plantation that covers much of Barnsmuir Colliery. It comprises a pit with a brick pithead-building to the W and bings to the NW and SE. From its location at the root of much of the railway system serving the Colliery, it is likely that this is Pit No. 1. In the same clearing to the NE, at NS 8700 7047, there is a shaft, lined with wooden panelling. [Canmore]

Alternate Names: None recorded.

Notes: A pit (disused is marked on the modern OS maps to the northeast of the given coordinates where there was once an air shaft but there are no visible remains. An air shaft relating to the Limerigg Colliery is marked on modern OS maps at NS 86724 70776.
