Cave of Cove Garbh

A fine, tall subtidal cave facing SE. It ends in a beach which appears to have an extension - not measured.

Length: 10 m to float + 60 m string + 13 m to rockface (photo 4) + 24 m from rockface to end of beach. Depth (equals -minus Alt BCD) estimated from float string and may be more. VR is a guesstimate as height and width were not measured on 21 June 24.

OS Namebook for Latheron parish, Caithness. Cove Garbh: "A narrow Cove about 4 chains in length at the end of which there is a Cave of considerable length, into which a boat can go at high tide Sig: [Signification] "Rough Cove".

Photo 4 as photo 3, but from about 77 m in. The well lit green rock face, up right, was used as a LDM target from the end of the measuring string at 70 m. The beach is a further 24 m from there. There appeared to be an extension at the end of the beach. Investigation of this would require a landing. 21 June 24.
