Raised beach sea cave.
- - -
Cave, contains archaeological deposits. [Islay Caves Project]
- - -
5 m wide, 3 m high entrance, easy/tricky access [depending on route/weather?].
The cave lies on the south side of a shingle cove and is accessed from above down a muddy goat path over rust stained slabs. The cave is initially wide, open and fairly dry. At 19 m in, there is an abrupt narrowing with two options to pass the constriction (goats manage). In another 8 m, the cave bends sharply to the right and continues for another 13 m. [Caves of Islay]
Alternative Names: Cave of the Rusty Path, Port a' Chotain (3)
Notes: The name 'Cave of the Rusty Path' comes from Graham Little, 2026. Recorded as Port a' Chotain (3) by Islay Caves Project, 2002.
