Ironstone Pit (19th Century).
Extensive clayband ironstone works, extent of which is shown on the abandonment plan in refs. This measures approx 0.7 km from NW margin (just beyond Garnock Water) to SE margins, excluding the contiguous old waste workings from Pitcon No.6 [Site 7525]. Site was located beside railway at Kersland Brick Works, now demolished / overgrown.

Notes: Given 8 fig. coordinates based on bore location shown on geological 6" map.
Shown as 'Kersland Pit (Ironstone)' on 1858 OS 6" map, and 'Kersland No2' on geological survey map. Latter states depth of Dalry Clayband at 42 fathoms [77 m].
East Kersland farm buildings surrounded by workings on N, S & W sides, but not undermined by CB.I. workings.
