Mine (Ironstone, & Limestone?), early 19th Century.
Sites of two neighbouring shafts located c.200 m SW of an old sandstone quarry. The SW shaft (at the given coordinates) encountered Main Hosie & Clayband Ironstone at 18 & 50m, respectively. The NE shaft at [NS 68185 54455] is possibly older, sunk pre-1858 (i.e. early 19th Century, possibly latest 18th). Both shaft sites are now occupied by rough vegetated ground within a woodland clearing.
Alternative Names: Dikehead
