Ironstone Pit, 19th c.
Shaft was at least 69 m deep, but now buried below private garden within residential area.
Alternative Names: Holehills Pit
Notes: Shown as 'Old Pit (Ironstone)' with limekiln on 1864 OS 6" map.
Named as Thrushbush No.2 Pit on abandonment plan (in refs). Given coordinates based on BGS GeoIndex & pit shaft location shown on Geological Survey 6" map (marked as 'Holehills Pit'). Noted as 38 fathoms [69 m] to Blackband Ironstone seam (probably the Airdrie BB.I.).
Two additional (coal?) mines noted c.150 m to E, and another c.160m to N.
