Mine (Ironstone), 19th Century.
Shaft marked as 'Chimney Shaft' to NW of additional 'Shaft' on 1856 OS map, possibly now lost to Open Cast quarrying. The shaft location is either close to, or overlying the southernmost area of the subsurface Levenseat Limestone Workings.
Alternative Names: Leven Seat [Shaft 4]
Notes: "Cur. at 10 fms" [Curdly Ironstone at 18m] annotated on geol. survey map.
This shaft does not extend down to the Levenseat Limestone (due to working an overlying ironstone seam), probably why it is ommited from the abandonment plan for the Levenseat Limestone Workings.
