"This basin has a tunnel now apparently filled but still has the gates. This tunnel connected to the Quarry to the south of the canal at Quarry Brae Brightons. The basin was used for the loading of stone from the quarry." [Union Canal Unlocked]

Notes: Brighton's Quarry, also known as Lawrie Park or Quarry Park, was a sandstone quarry in the village of Brightons, Falkirk. The quarry was in operation as early as the 17th century and played a significant role in the construction of Edinburgh's New Town in the 1830s and Falkirk's public buildings in the 1850s. Stone from the quarry was transported by the Union Canal.
Quarry has been infilled and now exists as recreation ground.
